Sergey Samarin was awarded his PhD from The University of St. Petersburg in 1976 and got the Habilitation in 1995. Since 1973 he has been working in the area of Surface Science studying surface electronic structure, adsorption phenomena, thin film growth, electron scattering dynamics. He worked at the Max-Planck institute for Microstructure Physics for five years developing new spectroscopy for surface analysis: low-energy two-electron spectroscopy in reflection mode. In 2000 he moved to The University of Western Australia where he built up the new two-electron coincidence spectrometer with spin-polarized incident beam. Current interests involve studies of electron correlation and spin-dependent phenomena in magnetic and nonmagnetic surfaces using electrons and positrons as projectiles.
