Atomic and Molecular Collision Studies
Research in the Centre
Birgit Lohmann completed her PhD in Atomic and Molecular Physics at Flinders University in 1984. After a stint as a postdoctoral fellow at the Australian National University, she took up a position as a lecturer at Murdoch University in 1986, where she initiated a research program in experimental electron collision physics. In 1990 she moved to Griffith University, where she was a member of the physics staff, Head of the School of Science and Director of the Centre for Quantum Dynamics. In 2007 she took up the position of Pro Vice Chancellor (Learning and Quality) at the University of Adelaide. She heads a research program with an emphasis on complete experiments in electron impact ionization of ground state atoms and molecules, and an additional project involving autoionizing transitions in collisions of spin polarized electrons with laser-excited targets. Current activities in the Centre for Antimatter-Matter Studies are directed towards studies of ionization in prototypical atomic systems and molecules of biological significance.
