Surface Studies

Variable-energy, thermalised positrons will be scattered from thin films, surfaces and interfaces for metals, semiconductors and insulators, to study the interaction processes and the surface potential, oxygen and biomolecules adsorbates and the preferential surface sensitivity for positronium [Ps] formation. These studies will explain elastic re-emission into the vacuum, localisation of the positron in a surface state, Ps emission by pickup of a near-surface electron, excitation of a bound positron out of a surface state, and reflection of the positron at the surface.
